Wreck
Title:  Wreck
Description:  Notes on this large cabnet photo: - The photo was taken in Newport, Maine by Huff’s Studio probably between 1905 and 1909 when he was located in Newport. – MC #313 collision Newport – The angle of the crossing and width of the street seem to place this scene at Elm Street (US RT 2) looking north. /DL

Station and empty yard
Title:  Station and empty yard
Description:  Almost every photograph I've seen of the western end of this station in summer shows the door hanging open. No train orders today. Notes with the print only indicate month, year, and location. The multibay garage on the right is a paved pubic parking lot in 2016.

Crossing Spring St
Title:  Crossing Spring St
Description:  Crossing Spring Street at Newport. The westerly camera angle showing the approaching eastbound train is looking at the spot where the east switch for Newport Jct once was. It joined the Dover Foxcroft Branch with the Main Line years ago. Today that line is a railtrail and can be walked or ridden the 29.43 miles all the way to the old Jct with the BAR (The B&A to a Mainer) in Dover Foxcroft. Like many scenes along the old MEC strings of vacant ties are still common here and there. /DL

Looking east towards Bangor
Title:  Looking east towards Bangor
Description:  Here are two track scenes taken from a vantage point at what was once at the east end of the yard near the intersection of Mill and Railroad Street. This perspective looks east across the bridge over the East Branch of the Sebasticook River. 100 years ago there was a woolen mill to the right. In the mid 20th century at center frame there was a siding on the far side of the main line. Other photorgraphs show a tank car spotted there for an industry. /DL

Looking westbound towards Pittsfield & Waterville
Title:  Looking westbound towards Pittsfield & Waterville
Description:  This photograph looks west across the extension of Mill Street. The whistle post just visible on the edge of the tree line at center frame is for the Spring Street Xing in the distance. Earlier photographs show a whistle post beside the station building. The east switch of Y was at center frame in the trees beyond Spring St. If I have indexed my perspective properly the points of a switch were once just beyond this crossing and the ties from it‘s siding are still evident on the left side of the track today. Other Newport Jct photos show ties from this siding at Spring Street. /DL
