John Frost's Section Crew on the D&P
Title:  John Frost's Section Crew on the D&P
Description:  C1889: From the back of the old photograph: Building Maine Central Railroad Dexter to Dover. The Dexter & Piscataquis RR was charted in 1888 and built in 1889 at which time the D&P was leased to the MEC. The foreman looks rather serious, perhaps he’s eager for the crew to get back to work. Today you can walk or ride a bike on this right of way. /DL

#85 Under the Pile Up
Title:  #85 Under the Pile Up
Description:  This must have been quite an event. A head on collision. #85 must have been the lead locomotive in a double header. A 4-4-0, MEC #85 was renumbered from 126 in 1900. From Rhode Island, it was built in November of 1887 and sold in June 1905. Do you supose it was rebuilt after this smash up? RR History says it was sold and not scrapped. /DL

Station & platform
Title:  Station & platform
Description:  This old Photo Postcard scene is postmarked Oct 19th 1906 and is addressed to Sangerville. That is a MEC caboose on the right. Someone is unloading a large box from the box car just under the platform awning. If I'm decoding this properly the camera is beside the BAR main line looking east back towards Derby. The switch beyond the platform is the BAR/MEC junction. Note the blueprint in this collection.... /DL
