| MEC’s #470 was the last active steam on the Maine Central. In this 1938 scene 470 is at the Lewiston Upper platform headed west. C2016 this locomotive has been purchased by the New England Steam Corp from the City of Waterville for eventual restoration at Washington Jct outside of Ellsworth. Much more info is on line at: http://www.newenglandsteam.org/ MEC 470 was a MEC Class C3 built at Schenectady by ALCO in June 1924. It made the last run on the Maine Central dead heading back to Waterville after it’s last pubilc run on the Main Line between Portland and Bangor. #470 was retired in June of 1954. It went on display in Waterville October of 1962. Alco builders number 65555. Cyls 25x28 with 73 inch drivers. (month and date are correct) /DL |
