The F.O.J.Smith         
April 27th 1869: Notes with the photograph: "Portland and Oxford Central RR Engine F.O.J.Smith thru the bridge over the Nezinscot River in Buckfiend on 27 April 1869. The conductor, Ed S.Burroughs, the engineer, O.P. Tucker and Frenchman acting as fireman jumped into the river and were swepped over the dam, but were rescued unharmed. The engine was built by the Portland Co in 1852 as the 'Danville' for the Atlantic & St.Lawrence RR, became Grand Trunk RR #111, then to the Portland and Oxford Central RR, the Portland and Rumford Falls RR and finally to the Maine Central RR." /DL
